
In court, Barnhart cried and apologized to the victim, his family, her husband and her kids for having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student. Dispelling the myth that the boy was likely not harmed, the victim's attorney, David Sabitz, said the teen is overwrought with guilt and battling suicidal thoughts.
In addition to two years in prison, Judge Paul King tacked on 10 years supervised sexual offender probation, a requirement to register as a sex offender for life, and $1,750 in fines.
