Will College Make Martin Sheen More Liberal?

(Galway, Ireland) This week, 66-year-old Martin Sheen joined 15,000 other students at the National University of Ireland, Galway, for the start of the semester. Having eschewed a college education early in life to pursue an acting career, multimillionaire Sheen now has the time and money to go after a sheepskin. He is tackling an "idiosyncratic combination of English literature, philosophy and oceanography."

The student body hasn't been too impressed with Sheen's celebrity so far which is the reason he selected Galway. He worried that he would be a "distraction" to other students if he had opted to attend an American university. Sheen's likely right but, even so, I imagine everyone at Galway will know about him in a short while.

Undoubtedly, a question on the typical observer's mind has to be whether Sheen will become more liberal through the influences of the academic establishment. On second thought, maybe a better question would be, "Is it conceivable for Martin Sheen to be more liberal?" Uh -- probably not.

In fact, Sheen is already being recruited to join the campus potato campaign. Some time ago, the Galway cafeteria banned baked potatoes and the students have organized a protest group to get the bakers back. Students want Sheen to lead the campaign.

As an aside, I haven't checked but it's entirely possible that the potatoes were originally banned because of some liberal wacko initiative that Martin Sheen has promoted in the past. Wouldn't that be a kick in the spuds?

Note: Even those who lack a sense of humor have to appreciate the irony of this situation. I can visualize the headlines now.
"Potato Restrictions in Ireland"

"Martin Sheen leads Crusade for Potatoes"
Heh.
