Hawaii Earthquake 10/15/06

Reliably, Scott Boone at Speed of Thought has all the data and graphics of today's 6.6 magnitude earthquake off the western coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. The quake occurred shortly after 7 am Hawaii Time. Aftershocks followed in abundance.

No fatalities nor serious injuries reported thus far. No tsunami detected.

On the Big Island, buildings are damaged, roads closed from landslides, North Kona hospital evacuated, debris and rubble impeding traffic, infrastructure damage being assessed.

On Oahu, power out. Some buildings with structural damage.

Outbound traffic from airports is halted temporarily due to power outage. Inbound traffic allowed to land.
