Slovenia Adopts Euros

(Ljubljana, Slovenia) Attention! Turn in your tolars.

Effective today, Slovenia becomes the first former-communist nation to adopt the euro. It joined the European Union in 2004.

The current exchange rate is about 240 tolars to one euro.

The currency changeover will permit tolars and euros to circulate only for two weeks. Banks and post offices will exchange tolars for euros until the end of February. Afterward, only the central bank will exchange tolars.
