Guard Sentenced for Sex with Juvie Inmate

[Bumped - Scroll down for update]

[04/20/07 entry]

(South Bend, Indiana) A 29-year-old former corrections employee at the South Bend Juvenile Correctional Facility, Julie A. Singleton, has been charged with sexual misconduct for allegedly engaging in sex with a 16-year-old male inmate.

Although the boy was of legal age in Indiana, he was a detainee in Singleton's care which means that sex between them is illegal.

The alleged sex was reported by a fellow employee who viewed through a window as Singleton and the boy engaged in sex on an office chair. Singleton acknowledged being in the principal's office with the boy but denied they had sex.

Singleton was terminated from her position in December. She currently is free on bond.
