(Charleston, South Carolina) According to this source on a scarcely reported story, 32-year-old Kanesa Hopkins pleaded guilty and was convicted in July 2008 of lewd acts on a child under 16 and was added to the South Carolina sex offender registry in August.The “lewd acts” guilty plea was a reduction, possibly bargained with the prosecutors, from the initial charge of criminal sexual conduct with a minor.Consequently, Hopkins was sentenced to a five-year suspended prison term and two years probation.
Notably, the media have been seemingly asleep at the wheel with regard to reporting the Hopkins case.
SC Teacher Jailed for Sex with Girl

(Charleston, South Carolina) A 31-year-old teacher at Westview Middle School in Goose Creek, Kanesa Hopkins, faces charges for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl. Hopkins is a former Teacher of the Year for Berkeley County. The girl was a student in Hopkins' 7th-grade class.
According to Detective Jerry Jellico, "The victim came forward approximately two weeks ago, and gave us a statement, alleging this abuse occurred several years ago and that's when we began the investigation."
Charges were filed Monday in Charleston County Court. Investigators claim that Hopkins confessed to the crimes.
Hopkins was booked into custody with her bond set at $300,000.
