Marijuana Mom Offered Diversion

(Murfreesboro, Tennessee) Last month, a 28-year-old mother of two, Christina M. Sawyer, was arrested for allegedly smoking marijuana with her sons, ages 5 and 10.

Sawyer was booked on charges of child neglect, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

This week, Sawyer appeared in General Sessions Court:
The case against a Murfreesboro mother accused of smoking marijuana with her 10-year-old son was diverted Tuesday in favor of a three-year probation period, officials said.

Christina M. Sawyer, 28, of 1306 Eagle St. must serve 90 days in the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and will be prohibited from seeing her two children without supervision for three years.

Officer Chris Waters, who arrested Sawyer, said she must comply with laws and the Department of Children's Services' action plan or else she could be sentenced to additional jail time.
Sawyer is scheduled to return to court in August for acceptance of the state's diversion offer.
