NJ Teacher - Student Sex Probe

(Kearny, New Jersey) A 27-year-old English teacher at Kearny High School, Celeste Adamski, was suspended from her teaching position on Wednesday for alleged inappropriate sexual activity with up to four male students. Law enforcement authorities were alerted immediately.

According to Superintendent of Schools Robert Mooney, the allegations are serious and sexual but he refused to delineate them.

A student approached Kearny High Principal Al Somma on Wednesday morning and told him about the alleged sexual activity. School officials then called in a student alleged to have engaged in the activity with Adamski and he confirmed the portion of the allegation that pertained to him, Mooney said.

Adamski was brought before school officials accompanied by her union representative, but neither Somma nor Mooney would say what Adamski's response was to the allegations.

After the meeting, Adamski - whose husband, John Adamski, is a history teacher at the high school - was suspended pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation, the school officials said.

The investigation continues.

Adamski pleaded guilty yesterday to one count of third-degree official misconduct in the Jersey City courtroom of Superior Court Judge Peter Vazquez.

The charge carries a possible sentence of 3 to 5 years in prison, but there is a presumption of non-incarceration for first-time offenders. Under the plea deal, prosecutors will ask for probation only as a sentence for Adamski, said Hudson County Deputy First Assistant Prosecutor Debra Simon. Adamski is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 30.

As part of the deal Adamski will lose her job at Kearny High School, give up her teaching certificate, and be barred from public employment, Simon said.

"We are looking to put this behind us and move on," said Kearny Superintendent of Schools Robert P. Mooney. "We advise parents and students having any difficulty with this, or any situation, to contact us. We are here to help."

Adamski's husband, John Adamski, continues to teach history at the high school and Mooney said he is in good standing.

Sounds like a hand slap is forthcoming.
