Teacher, 40, Weds Student, 16

(Brunswick, North Carolina) On Monday of this week, Mr. and Mrs. Hager reluctantly gave permission for their 16-year-old daughter, Windy, to get married.

Later in the day, 40-year-old science teacher and track coach at South Brunswick High School, Brenton Scott Wuchae, married student and track team member, Windy Hager.

On Tuesday, the Brunswick County School Board approved the resignation of Brenton Wuchae, one week after it had been submitted. Following a closed-door meeting, Superintendent Katie McGee said, "I am shocked and disheartened by what transpired."

Thanks to a commenter, there's additional information from another source. In a report from November 2006 after a state cross-country meet, Windy Hager relates that her motivation comes largely from Coach Wuchae.

"He's very encouraging. He's always telling us how proud he is," the South Brunswick sophomore said.

"I'm proud of where I finished but he seems to be even more proud of me. He's always been encouraging."

Hager said her experience at the state meet has given her specific goals for next season, goals she feels are within her grasp.

"You always think about next year; you want to make it better," she said. "That's what gives me the drive."

Based upon Hager's comments, it doesn't appear that being a June bride was on her mind eight months ago.
