VA Teacher's Aide Gets 30 Days for Sex Crimes

(Wise, Virginia) In March 2007, a 36-year-old teacher’s aide at Powell Valley High School, Darlene Anna Blagg, was indicted by a Wise County grand jury for alleged sexual exploitation of students.

Blagg, of Big Stone Gap, faced nine counts of indecent liberties with a juvenile by a person in a supervisory position. A mother alerted Wise County Sheriff's Department investigators after finding inappropriate text messages sent to her son by Blagg.

In the latest development, Blagg pleaded guilty to three felony counts of taking indecent liberties with a child under 18 while employed in a supervisory role over children. In exchange for her plea, Blagg was sentenced by Circuit Judge Joseph Carico to 30 days in jail, a three-year suspended prison sentence, two years of supervised probation, and one year of unsupervised probation.

Blagg must also have no contact with the victim and never seek or hold a job in the future where she would be in a supervisory role over children. Blagg was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

Next for Darlene Blagg, a married mother of two young children, is to report to the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail on June 15th to begin serving her 30 days.
