Voice of the People Rally - August 26, 2007

On Sunday, people gathered in Freeland, Pennsylvania, to voice outrage at current U.S. immigration policies. Freeland is close to Hazleton, the city trying to implement anti-illegal alien ordinances. Hazleton's local measures are on hold as the issue is tied up in a court battle.

Speakers at the rally were stalwart supporters of effective border controls and proponents of aggressive law enforcement. They included Freeland Mayor Tim Martin, John Rucki of NJ Citizens for Immigration Reform, Dan "Digger" Amato of Diggers Realm and Ruth Miller of Illegal Protest. A number of individuals from Voice of the People also spoke including Frank Scavo, Greg Griffin, Arlene Thomas, Renee Butts, Andrew Woodring and Dan Smeriglio. Voice of the People organized the event.

For the record, I was there in spirit, rather than in person. Fortunately, Digger has comprehensively blogged the rally, complete with pics and videos. As a grassroots effort, all participants deserve applause. Polls show that most Americans back their efforts.

I'd like to encourage readers to visit Digger's post on the Freeland Rally and get a snapshot of ordinary citizens standing up in support of border security and law enforcement. You'll get a sense of being there.
