China Boosting Coal Production

(Beijing, China) According to Wang Xianzheng, Deputy Director of the State Administration of Work Safety, China is streamlining the coal industry to boost output.
As part of the streamlining process the country plans to build 10 large strip-mines with a production capacity of 10 million tonnes each and another 10 pits with a yield of 10 million tonnes each, Wang said.
China estimates coal production will rise from 2.3 billion tons last year to 2.6 billion tons by 2010. So, while Americans are being bombarded with alarm messages of global warming and the plight of the planet Earth, the Chinese are digging and burning coal with apparent abandon.

Over a billion global warming deniers and Al Gore hasn't been bugging any of them. It sure seems to me that Al Gore should go to China and beat on Wang. He's the official who should be encouraged to reduce reliance on coal.

For comparison of coal production and usage, check out this chart from the World Coal Institute. Compared to the U.S., China easily pumps out twice the greenhouse gases from coal into the atmosphere.

Either the Chinese are ignoring or didn't receive Al Gore's inconvenient warnings of global catastrophe from greenhouse gases.
