Ohio Girls' Coach Accused of Sex Crimes

(Port Clinton, Ohio) Erin Baker, a 25-year-old girls basketball coach, formerly with Port Clinton High School, was arrested last Friday and charged with having sexual contact with a female student.

Ottawa County Prosecutor Mark Mulligan said the victim is younger than 18 and enrolled at Port Clinton High School. Baker faces six felony counts of sexual battery.

According to Superintendent Pat Adkins, Baker was not a teacher at Port Clinton Public Schools.
Her arrest came after the girl told the school counselor earlier this month Baker had improper contact with her, Adkins said. The counselor immediately told school-resource Officer Ralph Edmonds, who investigated with Ottawa County Children's Services, Adkins said.

Adkins and Mulligan declined to comment on whether the girl was a member of the basketball team or where the alleged incidents took place.

Baker was an assistant coach for about four years, Adkins said. The school board hires each coach in the district for one year at a time, and members have not yet considered basketball coaching positions for this year, he said.

"We will not hire her for this year, obviously," he said.
Baker was booked into custody at the Ottawa County Detention Facility. She was released Monday on $50,000 bond.
