Teacher Caught with 400 Lbs. of Pot
(Roma, Texas) A teacher's aide at Ema Vera Elementary School, Elizabeth Garza, was arrested last weekend by the Starr County Drug Task Force in possession of more than 400 pounds of marijuana.
Garza was arrested near the town of Salineno, presumably in a vehicle, with the 400 pounds of pot. Salineno is about 15 miles west of Roma. Both towns are within rock-skipping distance of the Rio Grande River, the international border with Mexico.
The school system placed Garza on suspension without pay pending the outcome of an investigation.
Due to the quantity, it's assumed that Garza faces felony drug trafficking charges. Of course, recognizing that the Rio Grande Valley has the reputation of being a generally unpredictable legal environment, Garza may convince the authorities that she found the drugs or they were a misdemeanor personal use quantity.
