Las Vegas Teacher Gets Jail in Abuse Case - Updated

(Las Vegas, Nevada) Mamie Hubbard-Washington was sentenced yesterday to 60 days in jail and three years probation.

(Las Vegas, Nevada) This week, former special education teacher at Doris Reed Elementary School, Mamie Hubbard-Washington, 67, was found guilty by a jury of abusing autistic children.
Mamie Hubbard-Washington could face up to 30 years in state prison following her conviction Wednesday on five felony child abuse and neglect charges.
Sentencing by Clark County District Court Judge Abbi Silver is scheduled for June 16.

Las Vegas Teacher Accused of Child Abuse

(Las Vegas, Nevada) A 64-year-old special education teacher at Doris Reed Elementary School, Mamie Hubbard-Washington, has been accused of child abuse of autistic children, ages 6 through 8, during 2006 and 2007.

Witnesses said that Hubbard-Washington hit, force-fed, pinched, scratched and insulted the kids. In one incident, a child was left with a chipped tooth and a bloody lip.

Yesterday, a judge ruled that Hubbard-Washington will stand trial on five felony counts of child abuse. No date for trial was disclosed.

Hubbard-Washington no longer works for the Clark County School District.
