Snake Wrangler Dies From Snake Bite

(Deming, New Mexico) A 37-year-old snake specialist, James Bear, died yesterday morning from a bite on the thumb from a canebrake rattlesnake.

The canebrake, also canebreak, rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus atricaudatus) is listed as a threatened species in the state of Texas and endangered in Virginia.

Bear reportedly possessed more than 300 snakes in his home.
