(Washington, D.C.) A 33-year-old woman, Banita Jacks, has been arrested and charged for the murders of her four children. During a forceable eviction of Jacks from her residence, U.S. Marshals found the bodies.
The skeletal remains of Brittany Jacks, 17, Tatianna Jacks, 11, N'Kiah Fogle, 6, and Aja Fogle, 5, were found Wednesday morning, on the second floor of the house in the 4200 block of Sixth Street SE.Banita Jacks told police that the girls were possessed by demons and had been dead for months.
Although autopsies are incomplete, the medical examiner's office reported that there was evidence that Brittany had been stabbed, the charging documents state. There was evidence of binding on the necks of the Tatianna and N'Kiah, and evidence of blunt force injury to the head of Aja and binding on her neck, according to the documents.Sadly, problems with the Jacks family were known or suspected by neighbors, the school system and social welfare authorities. Inquiries by the D.C. Child and Family Services department were closed improperly.
Jacks told police the deaths occurred before a utility turned off her electricity, which prosecutors said was in September. She told investigators she had not fed her children for a substantial time before their deaths.
