On February 23, 1945, the American flag was raised on Iwo Jima's Mount Suribachi by a group of U.S. Marines. The last living member of that group of Marines, Raymond Jacobs, died on January 29.Raymond Jacobs, believed to be the last surviving member of the group of Marines photographed during the original U.S. flag raising on Iwo Jima during World War II, has died at age 82.Rest in peace.
