Gun Found in Classroom
(Santa Ana, California) A 51-year-old third-grade teacher at Diamond Elementary School, Jayne DeArmond, was arrested this week after an 8-year-old student found a .38 caliber handgun and ammunition in a drawer in her classroom.
DeArmond faces charges of felony possession of a firearm on a campus and misdemeanor child endangerment.
According to Angela Burrell, Santa Ana Unified School District spokeswoman, parents were notified and counseling has been made available. Authorities are investigating.
DeArmond was booked into custody and later released on $20,000 bond.
Ms. Burrell stated that DeArmond is no longer working on campus.
