(Atlanta, Georgia) In November 2006, 29-year-old Shandrell Banks was charged in the beating death of her two-year-old daughter, Nateyonna Banks.
Banks faced counts of murder and cruelty to children.
Last week, Shandrell Banks surprised the court and entered a guilty plea.
Shandrell Banks pleaded guilty to 12 felony charges involving her daughter Nateyonna Banks, including three counts of felony murder, six counts of cruelty to children, aggravated assault and aggravated battery.Fallout from the Banks' case included finger-pointing at the Fulton County Department of Family and Children Services which had placed the child into Banks' custody despite Banks' recent release from prison and her drug use.
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Wendy Shoob sentenced Banks to life in prison, a spokeswoman for Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard said.
