(Wheaton, Illinois) A 19-year-old former pet store worker, Emanuel Lopez, was sentenced 60 days in jail for stealing a Pomeranian puppy and driving around town blowing marijuana smoke into its face until the dog passed out. It was the third theft conviction for Lopez in the past year.
After dashing out of the Petland store March 21 with a 2-pound purebred Pomeranian puppy worth $1,500, Emanual Lopez and his friends drove around "blowing the smoke of cannabis into the face of the dog until it passed out," Detective Richard Arsenault said in court Wednesday.Lopez and friends are former employees of the Petland store so there was little doubt about the identities of the thieves.
The sable-colored pup was returned to the store three days later, in good health, and has since been adopted by a Naperville family.
In May, Lopez, 19, of Plainfield, pleaded guilty to felony retail theft for his role in the puppy-napping.
And just think. Once marijuana is legalized throughout the nation, we can expect more stupid criminal behavior.
