Maryland Teacher Gets 6 Months for Dealing Coke - Updated

(Rockville, Maryland) Earlier today, 45-year-old Wootten High School teacher Theresa Duarte was sentenced to six months in jail for distributing cocaine to a student.

Called the "coolest woman alive" by the Wootten yearbook staff, Duarte had previously pleaded guilty to cocaine distribution to a student in her home.
During her sentencing hearing, Theresa Duarte apologized to the Thomas S. Wootton High School community for the embarrassment caused by the crime, said her attorney, William Brennan.
Duarte was also sentenced to three years of supervised probation. She is scheduled to report to the slammer on Monday.

(Rockville, Maryland) A 44-year-old teacher formerly at Wootton High School, Theresa Cunningham Duarte, was arrested yesterday for allegedly distributing cocaine to high school students.
Duarte was charged with two counts of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance and and two counts of contributing to conditions of a child.

Police say she distributed cocaine to students on more than one occasion from her home on Brice Road in Rockville.

Duarte was a substitute teacher at Einstein High School in Kensington during the 2003-2004 school year. She was hired full time at Wootton High School in Rockville in July of 2004.
Duarte was booked into custody and later released on $150,000.
