Michigan Teacher Gets Jail in Sex Case - Updated

(Holly, Michigan) Former music teacher Ranee Proper was sentenced yesterday by Circuit Court Judge Edward Sosnick for her conviction on one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Sosnick followed the recommended sentencing of prosecution, giving Proper five years of probation with nine months to be spent in the Oakland County Jail.

Additionally, Proper's name will be added to the Michigan Sex Offender Registry, she will be expected to take part in a sex offender mental health program while serving her time, and will be allowed no unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18 with the exception of her own children.
Proper's lawyer said that his client has significant remorse.

Michigan Teacher Guilty of Sex with Two Students - Updated

(Holly, Michigan) Last Friday, former Holly High School music teacher, Ranee S. Proper, pleaded guilty before Oakland County Circuit Judge Edward Sosnick to criminal sexual conduct stemming from engaging in sex with two students at school and at her home.
Under a plea agreement, five counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct -- which carries a mandatory prison term -- were dismissed.

Proper, 42, could still face prison time, but Sosnick will have the option of giving her a lesser sentence under this plea.
In addition to her duties at Holly High School, the married mother-of-three was very active teaching music at a number of schools in the area.

Going unreported are the penalties Proper faces when she is sentenced on June 3.

Michigan Teacher Accused of Relations with Two Students

(Holly, Michigan) A 41-year-old former music teacher at Holly High School, Ranee Sue Proper, has been accused of engaging in sex with two students at her home and at the high school.

A married, mother-of-three, Proper is charged with five counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Before the end of the school year, rumors started about Proper having alleged intimate relations with students. In June, Proper resigned her position. Yesterday, she was arraigned in District Court in Clarkston.

Proper was booked into custody with bond set at $50,000. A court appearance is scheduled for October 24.
