Oklahoma Teacher's Rape Trial Scheduled - Updated
[Previous 5/11/09 post]
(Sallisaw, Oklahoma) Twenty-eight-year-old former teacher Stephanie Diane Harris appeared before Sequoyah County District Court Judge Jeff Payton last week to discuss her rape trial date.

Harris faces charges of first-degree rape and three counts of soliciting sexual conduct or communication with a minor by use of technology.
Payton announced there would be no June docket because of statewide cut backs, so Harris’ next court appearance will be July 23, and the jury trial date will be held on Aug. 10. [...]

On June 24, Harris allegedly asked the juvenile in a text message if he (the boy) would have sex with her. The boy told police that Harris picked him up in her vehicle while he was walking down the road and took him to her home, where the two allegedly had sex.
If convicted, Harris faces a possible lengthy term in prison.

According to a court affidavit, Harris sent nude pictures of herself to the victim via text messaging.
Marble City School's attorney Rex Starr says Harris has officially resigned after she had been suspended. He says the alleged sexual activity did not occur on school property.

Starr says, "The activity that was being alleged did not occur at the school. The info was that it had taken place during the month of June during the school recess."
Harris was booked into custody with bond set at $35,000.
