20,000 Moo-ers Lost
(United Kingdom) The British Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has admitted that tracking of more than 20,000 cows has been lost. Tracking is maintained to presumably protect the public from mad cow disease and foot and mouth epidemics.
The cattle should have been logged into DEFRA’s livestock tracing system but apparently were not.
According to Peter Ainsworth, the shadow Environment Secretary, "Laptops, data, and now cows, is there anything this Government cannot misplace?"
