Indiana Teacher Gets No Jail in Sex Case

Free Image hosting by ImageSnap(Indianapolis, Indiana) In May 2008, a 36-year-old teacher at Renaissance School, Sheila Vasquez, was arrested for engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old male student. The mother-of-three, who taught eighth-graders at the alternative school, resigned after her arrest.
Investigators say she allegedly drove a 15-year-old male student to her home in the Castleton area May 1 and had sexual intercourse with him, said Sgt. Matthew Mount of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
In accordance with a plea agreement, Vasquez pleaded guilty to one count of felony sexual misconduct with a minor in exchange for dismissal of three other counts and assurance that she would be sentenced to no more than eight years in prison.

Today, Marion Superior Court Commissioner Stan Kroh sentenced Vasquez to two years of home detention. She was also ordered to serve four years of probation and she must register as a sex offender.

Forget eight years, the court couldn't see fit to put Vasquez in jail for one day. Vasquez should make sure her Christmas card list is updated to include Commissioner Kroh.
