Arizona Teacher Gets 4 Months for Sex with Girl - Updated

(Mesa, Arizona) Yesterday in Maricopa County Superior Court, 26-year-old former special needs teacher at Mesa's Carson Junior High School, Elizabeth Claire Livesay, was sentenced to four months in jail for sex offenses committed against a 16-year-old girl she met at church.

The girl was not a student of Livesay's and the sexual episodes occurred between June and August 2008 at the girl's home.

Livesay was reportedly the girl's mentor but it's not clear what subject was being mentored. However, since Livesay was a special needs teacher, the girl probably needed mentoring on something special.

Judge Connie Contes also imposed 14 years of supervised probation and ordered Livesay to register as a sex offender.

[Previous 11/19/08 post]
(Gilbert, Arizona) A 26-year-old special education teacher at Carson Junior High School, Elizabeth Livesay, was arrested Monday for allegedly engaging in sex with a 16-year-old girl.

Livesay has been charged with 11 counts of sexual conduct with a minor.

According to Gilbert Police Lt. Eric Shuhandler, there is no evidence that the female victim was a student nor that any of the alleged sexual incidents occurred at school. The alleged crimes were reported to the police last month by an unnamed counselor.

Livesay was placed on administrative leave by the Mesa Public School system pending the outcome of an investigation.
