(Madison, Nebraska) In March 2007, a local woman, Tammy Walnofer, was arrested in a California motel on a charge of first-degree sexual assault of a 14-year-old boy. Walnofer and her daughter had been missing since May 2006, presumably on the lam from the law.
Walnofer was held in a California prison until she was extradited back to Nebraska to face charges. Subsequently, a year of delays and legal wrangling ensued and, in August 2008, Walnofer entered a no contest plea to a charge of felony child abuse.
This week, 39-year-old Tammy Walnofer was sentenced to 18 to 26 months in prison. As an explanation, Walnofer's attorney said she had sex with the 14-year-old because he said he would harm himself if she didn't.
