Pregnant Coke-Head Sentenced
(Huntsville, Alabama) A 28-year-old Lauderdale County woman, Sydney Underwood, pleaded guilty to using cocaine before her baby was born.
As a consequence of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, Underwood was sentenced to a supervised community corrections program and ordered to complete a drug rehabilitation program.
Therefore, according to the court the fetus in the womb is a child. The ruling is contrary to the widely-held contention that a fetus is an unviable tissue mass.
