KS Teacher Gets Hand Slap for Sex with Student - Updated

(Russell County, Kansas) Former Lucas-Luray High School English teacher Nina Urban has been sentenced to probation for having a sexual relationship with a student at the school.

In November, she pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful sexual relations, a low-level felony, and two other counts were dismissed.

Russell County Attorney Daniel Krug said probation was the presumptive sentence for unlawful sexual relations.

I'm surprised that unlawful sex with a student is a "presumptive" probationary offense. It's as if sex with a student is an everyday, normal event similar to a traffic violation. Sheesh!

(Russell County, Kansas) Former Lucas-Luray High School teacher Nina Urban has pleaded guilty to one felony count of unlawful sexual relations with a male student.

Twenty-five-year-old Urban was originally charged with three counts of unlawful sexual relations. The age of the boy has not been reported.

She has resigned her teaching position and, by pleading guilty, has likely ended her career in education.

Sentencing is scheduled for January 5, 2010.

Kansas Teacher Accused of Sex with Male Student

(Russell, Kansas) A female teacher at Lucas-Luray High School, Nina Urban, was arrested yesterday for allegedly engaging in sex with a male student.

According to a news release from the Russell County Sheriff's Office, the student's parents called the sheriff's office on Jan. 20 and alleged that their son had been having a sexual relationship with Nina Urban, of Lucas.

After a nine-day investigation by the sheriff's office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, an arrest warrant was issued Thursday.

Urban, who turned herself in to the sheriff's custody, is facing a charge of unlawful sexual relations.

Urban was booked and released on $10,000 bond. Her arraignment is scheduled for February 12.
