The Trial of Democrat Fundraiser Norman Hsu
Charged last year with operating an illegal $60 million pyramid scheme to raise funds for Democrat candidates, Norman Hsu will go on trial January 12th in U.S. District Court.
Hsu's lawyer, Martin Cohen, tried to get a 60-day delay in the trial start date due to extraordinary negative publicity anticipated around inauguration time.
Cohen asserted that Hsu's ties to Bill and Hillary Clinton plus other Democrat leaders (likely including President-elect Obama) would prominently affect Hsu's ability to have a fair trial.
Judge Victor Marrero declined to delay the trial. Therefore, competing with inaugural news will be reports of court testimony alleging how Hsu pressured donors to direct money to specific candidates and later reimbursed them in violation of federal laws.
