(Chardon, Ohio) A 41-year-old transgendered woman, Christine Newton-John, pleaded guilty Thursday in Geauga County Court to reckless homicide in the death of her 73-year-old husband, James Mason. Mason died while exercizing in an apartment complex swimming pool.
A surveillance video shows "Christine Newton-John pulling James Mason around the pool by his arms and legs and preventing him from leaving," according to Middlefield Police Chief John Stehlik.
The chief said he counted 43 times in which Newton-John prevented her husband from leaving the water, and Mason rested his head on the side of the pool several times while gasping for breath.A similar episode led to Mason having a heart attack in June 2008.
"The video is bone-chilling," Stehlik said. "The whole case is very sinister."
Newton-John faces up to five years in prison when sentenced on a date to be determined.
