Utah Woman Cleared in Sex Case - Updated

(Salt Lake City, Utah) With the trial imminent, the prosecution dropped all charges against 30-year-old Catherine Cates and the judge dismissed the case. Apparently, new information from witnesses demolished the prosecution's argument.

The case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning the state cannot re-file charges.

(Salt Lake City, Utah) A 30-year-old local woman, Catherine Cates, has been accused of engaging in sex with a 12-year-old neighborhood boy on four occasions.

The alleged sex reportedly occurred in December 2008 and January 2009. Police suspect that there are more victims, including a 14-year-old.

Cates has been charged with rape of a child, sodomy and child sex abuse.

She was booked into custody and then transferred to a hospital psychiatric unit for a mental evaluation. Cates will return to jail after the evaluation.
