Illinois Teacher Gets Probation for Sex with Student - Updated

(Edwardsville, Illinois) Yesterday, 37-year-old former Edwardsville High School teacher Kasey E. Johnes pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse stemming from her relationship with a male student.

As a result, Johnes was sentenced by Circuit Judge Richard Tognarelli to probation for two years.
A second, more serious charge of aggravated criminal sexual assault was dismissed Tuesday in exchange for Johnes' plea to the lesser offense but aggravated criminal sexual abuse is a felony and Johnes' conviction will require her to register as a sexual offender.
Johnes is also prohibited from contacting her victim and she must attend counseling.

The school district initially suspended Johnes from her teaching position and later terminated her.
