Presbyterians Nix Gay Clergy But Allow Promiscuity
The Presbyterian Church of the United States has voted against allowing homosexuals to serve as clergy.
However, the homosexual community is encouraged by the fact that the margin of defeat in yesterday's vote was closer than the last time the issue was presented for approval. Presumably, it's only a matter of time before the gays and lesbians get the 2.3 million member-church to bend over to its wishes.
Also encouraging is last year's decision by the Presbyterian General Assembly to allow promiscuity among members of the church hierarchy. The constitutional specification for ministers, deacons and elders to live in fidelity in marriage and chastity in singleness was eliminated.
