Taliban Promise New Afghan Operation

(Kandahar, Afghanistan) Earlier today, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid phoned the media (AFP) and read a threatening statement from Mullah Borador, deputy to one-eyed leader Mullah Omar. It warned of increased ambushes, suicide attacks and bombings.
‘Operation Nasrat’ (Victory), to be launched on Tuesday, would also target Afghan officials and international diplomats with a wave of suicide bombings and attacks, claimed a statement from the extremist militia. [...]

'Now that America and Nato intend to send more troops to Afghanistan, the Afghans also feel the need for a more speedy and strong operation to defend themselves and the freedom of their country,’ it said. [...]

‘Our targets will be the units of the invading forces, diplomatic stations, convoys, ranking officials of the puppet government, MPs, and employees of the defence, interior and intelligence ministries,’ it said.
The statement also warned Afghans and private contracting company personnel to stop supporting President Karzai.

Notably, the Taliban regularly issue notifications and threats of "new" operations. Military officials usually dismiss the threats as insignificant.
