(Paris, Tennessee) An English teacher at Henry County High School, Sandra Curtis, was arrested yesterday for allegedly engaging in sex with a 16-year-old male student.
Curtis has been charged with three counts of statutory rape by an authority figure and three counts of aggravated statutory rape.
Investigators say the sophomore joined Curtis' English class in January. By February, they said, the relationship had begun.Curtis was booked into custody at the Henry County Jail and later released on $15,000 bond. A court appearance is scheduled for May 19th.
Sheriff Monte Belew said the pair met three times after school hours- having sex once in a car, at a home, and at another undisclosed location. Within a few weeks, he says, the student told his parents.
"I think the 16-year-old just realized this was a situation gone wrong," Belew said.
Sheriff Belew says the student helped in the investigation- calls and text messages he says will be great evidence.
