Ohio Teacher Gets Prison in Sex Case - Updated

(Mt. Orab, Ohio) Former special education teacher Heidi Mullinix has been sentenced by Common Pleas Judge Scott Gusweiler to one year in prison for a conviction of sexual battery of a male student.
As a part of the plea deal, Brown County Prosecutor Jessica Little recommended that Mullinix be sentenced to five years of community control instead of the maximum sentence of five years in prison.

At the sentencing on July 1, Gusweiler sentenced Mullinix to one year in prison, as well as five years of community control.

Additionally, Mullinix must register as a tier three sex offender for the rest of her life, and update the court on her whereabouts every three months.
After sentencing, Mullinix reported to the Brown County Detention Center to begin her term.

(Brown County, Ohio) A special education teacher and girl's basketball coach at Brown County High School, Heidi Mullinix, was accused of engaging in sex with a 17-year-old male student after rumors surfaced at school.

On the verge of a grand jury inquiry, Mullinix pleaded guilty today to one count of sexual battery.

Mullinix admitted to having sex with the boy but it did not occur at the school. The sex reportedly occurred between February and March of 2004.

Mullinix is expected to resign her teaching position tomorrow.

Sentencing has been scheduled for July 1.
