Pregnant Woman Killed and Baby Ripped Out

(Portland, Oregon) A 27-year-old local woman, Korena Roberts, has been accused killing a pregnant friend, 21-year-old Heather Snively, and cutting her open to steal her unborn child.

Paramedics were called to Roberts' Beaverton home on June 5 on reports of a newborn in distress, police said. When they arrived, they found a newborn baby that wasn't breathing and Roberts told them she'd just given birth to the child, investigators said.

She and the infant were taken to the hospital, but doctors were unable to revive the boy. They determined Roberts had not recently given birth and that was when detectives went back to Roberts' home and found the child's real mother under the floorboards, police said.

Her death was ruled a murder and the medical examiner's office later determined her baby had been cut from her womb.

Roberts has been charged with four counts of aggravated murder, two counts of first-degree robbery and one count of murder. No charges have been filed for the death of Snively's eight-month fetus since the state of Oregon doesn't recognize unborn children as human beings under the law.
