Female Educator Gets Jail for Sex with Girl

(Santa Barbara County, California) Last month, 32-year-old former principal at Tunnell Elementary School in Santa Maria, Brookann Collier, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of lewd acts with a child and one count of oral copulation, all stemming from a long-term sexual relationship with a girl beginning at age 14.

Collier was originally arrested in April 2009 and her victim is now 20 years old..

Last week in Santa Barbara County Court, Collier was sentenced by Judge Bullard to one year in the Santa Barbara County Jail and five years of probation. In a statement, Collier offered apologies.
"I can see that I am not perfect and I've made mistakes," Collier said. "I am deeply saddened that former students, and parents, teachers, staff members, and colleagues, have had to suffer any amount of anguish due to this case."

She apologized to her family, her friends, and her husband.

As far as a direct apology to Jane Doe [her victim], there was none.
The absence of an apology to the victim suggests that Collier harbors strong, lingering sentiments in the case. Moving on with her life while putting the entire episode behind her may prove nettlesome.

Collier was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life and undergo sex offender treatment.
