India Joins Nuke Sub Builders Club
(Visakhapatnam, India) With the launch of INS Arihant (meaning destroyer of enemies) today, India has joined five other nations in the nuclear-powered submarine builders club.
The Arihant was built by Indians with Russian help as a secret project codenamed advanced technology vessel (ATV). The Indians are also developing their own home-made ballistic and cruise missiles to put aboard their home-made nuke boat.
It's estimated that three to five years of preoperational checks and sea trials will be needed before the Arihant is fully operating.
Other nations capable of building their own nuclear submarines are Russia, China, France, the U.K. and the U.S.
