SoCal Woman Gets Jail for Sex with Boy

(Santa Ana, California) A 49-year-old Newport Beach woman, Mary Hamilton, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of lewd acts upon a child stemming from the molestation of a 14-year-old boy. Consequently, Hamilton was sentenced to one year in jail and three years of probation.

According to Orange County Deputy DA Tony Ferrentino, Hamilton was a family friend who molested the boy when he was visiting her home.

The judge decided to offer Hamilton the plea deal because she had no prior convictions and her guilty plea came early in the proceedings, the prosecutor added. He said he was satisfied with the court's offer.

If Hamilton had been found guilty after a trial, she could have gotten three years and eight months in prison, Ferrentino said.

Hamilton was also ordered to register as a sex offender.
