(Santa Barbara, California) In March 2009, a 33-year-old local woman, Leianna Arzate, was arrested for kidnapping a newborn from the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Arzate was quickly apprehended after being identified on a surveillance tape. She was booked into custody at the Santa Barbara County Jail with bail set at $500,000. The baby was returned to his family, unharmed.
This past week, unemployed mother-of-four Leianna Arzate was sentenced after pleading guilty to kidnapping, burglary and child endangerment. Arzate received 11 years in prison.
It just doesn't make sense. Arzate already had four kids. Why kidnap another?
