Kentucky Teacher Pleads Guilty in Drug Case - Updated

(Lexington, Kentucky) Former teacher and dance coach at Crawford Middle School, Ashley Alyson Delaney, 29, appeared in court yesterday to plead guilty to reduced charges.

Original charges of trafficking a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of a school, cultivation of more than five marijuana plants and possession of drug paraphernalia were reduced to two counts of possession of marijuana. For her guilty plea, Delaney was fined $200.

The man arrested with Delaney, Jeremy Byard, also had his charges reduced to one count of cultivation of marijuana to which he pleaded guilty. Sentencing in Byard's case wasn't reported.

Delaney resigned her teaching position in April.

(Lexington, Kentucky) A 28-year-old language arts teacher at Crawford Middle School, Ashley Delaney, was arrested Tuesday for alleged drug offenses.

She faces charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, trafficking a controlled substance and cultivation of marijuana.

Delaney's arrest came as a result of a search of her home conducted by Lexington Police Tuesday night. Also arrested was a man named Jeremy Byard.

Fayette County Schools suspended Delaney with pay. Reportedly, she has no prior criminal record.
