Molester Gets Jail or Choice of Going to Mexico

(Grand Junction, Colorado) In a story that has received scant coverage by the media, a 46-year-old woman, Maria Elena Kennedy, was accused of forcing three little girls into performing sex acts on her. She was charged with sex assault on a child.

Kennedy pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of unlawful sexual conduct. She was sentenced to 18 months in prison or the option of returning to Mexico -- which would seem to indicate that she is illegally in the United States.

I don't think the judge was thinking of the law when he imposed the sentence. It's called crime and punishment, not crime and go to Mexico.

Also, it doesn't seem to be an official deportation, rather it's a choice. So if she does choose to go to Mexico, which would be logical, there's nothing, other than an ersatz border, precluding her from returning and molesting again.
