(Chesterfield, Virginia) A 50-year-old substitute teacher formerly at Jacobs Road Elementary School, Sabrina Pado, has pleaded no contest to possessing alcohol on school property.
Pado reportedly was drunk in the classroom with a blood alcohol level of 0.15 percent.
"It was the kids that brought it to the principal's attention," said prosecutor Ken Nickels. "The kids knew that there was something abnormal about their teacher's behavior."Pado was sentenced to eight days in jail and fined $125.
Pado had concealed beer in a sports bottle she brought into the classroom, Nickels said.
The May 7 incident began less than 30 minutes after school started. A police officer testified that Pado had glassy eyes and "either mistakenly or intentionally" gave her last name as Jones, Nickels said.
"At one point out in the parking lot, she kind of hit her fist on the ground and said basically that she had done something stupid," Nickels said.
