Shanghai Fire, November 15, 2010
(Shanghai, China) Thus far, at least 53 people have died from yesterday's high-rise apartment building fire in Shanghai. At least another 70 have been injured with 17 in critical condition.
The 28-story building was undergoing renovation when the fire broke out. Unlicensed welders have been detained for questioning.
The official government news source, Xinhua, stated that a fire report was received about 2:15 p.m. and "authorities dispatched 122 fire engines and more than 1,300 fire-fighters to the site within a minute." One minute! Good Lord, that is a speedy response!
