(Abu Dhabi, UAE) Currently underway, the 10th International Defense Exhibition & Conference (IDEX 2011) showcases the latest defense industry developments in systems, equipment, devices and programs.
Presumably, defense spending by Middle East countries should ramp up due to unrest and tensions in Egypt, Libya, Bahrain, Iran, Jordan, Yemen, Algeria, Tunisia, yada-yada-yada. But there is a significant degree of apprehension.
"The Middle East was a growing market until a few weeks ago," said one arms trader who, like most, asked not to be named.Heh.
"It's a question now of who do we want to sell to. Do we want to sell hi-tech equipment to [Egypt's] Muslim Brotherhood? I don't think so."
