A Kentlake High School math teacher accused of having sex with a 17-year-old student has been sentenced to eight months in jail.Anderson, a married mother-of-two, was also ordered to register as a sex offender and to serve her sentence without opportunities for work release or home detention.
Jailed since pleading guilty to a related charge in July, Covington resident Barbara Jeanne Anderson was sentenced Friday afternoon in King County Superior Court.
King County prosecutors had alleged that Anderson was something of a confidant for the boy and then began having sex with him.
According to charging documents, the King County Sheriff's Office was contacted in early February when the teen allegedly threatened to kill himself. Investigators came to learn that Anderson, 37, initiated a sexual relationship around that time.

(Seattle, Washington) Earlier today, 37-year-old Kentlake High School teacher Barbara Jeanne Anderson pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual misconduct with a minor.
According to a report by sheriff's Det. Christine Elias, Anderson and the boy had sex once.Anderson faces a possible year in jail when sentenced on September 9.
Anderson, a married mother of two, was suspended from her job at the Kent School District and placed on paid leave while the King County Sheriff's Office investigated the allegations. Her current job status is unclear.

(Seattle, Washington) A 37-year-old math teacher at Kentlake High School, Barbara Jeanne Anderson, has been accused of engaging in sex with a 17-year-old male student.
Authorities were alerted to investigate after the boy's mother noticed an extraordinary number of text messages between Anderson and her son.
Anderson was arrested on suspicion of first-degree sexual misconduct with a minor.
Police allege the maths tutor groped the boy in her classroom and later drove him to a housing development near his home where she performed a sex act on him.Anderson was booked into custody at the King County Jail and subsequently released pending the filing of formal charges.
The age of consent in Washington is 16 but statutes make exceptions for teachers or other adults in positions of authority to have sexual relations with anyone under 18.
