Tonight's Easter Vigil service has begun with the lighting of the Paschal Candle. The service is considered as the most important vigil by the Catholic Church as this is when Christ's Resurrection is announced.

After the blessing of the fire and the preparation of the Paschal Candle, Pope Benedict XVI entered St. Peter's Basilica where a deacon solemnly announced Christ's Resurrection chanting the Exsultet: "Rejoice heavenly powers! Sing, choirs of angels. Rejoice, O Mother Church! Exult in Glory!". . .
